LINEA TRASVERSALE

Linea Trasversale W.I.N.G.

Since 1995, when we first met as participants of theatre workshop it seemed that  the opportunity to search for the "missing part" of our experience with theatre had presented itself.

L.T. was born from that meeting of actors who had no director, directors who had long lost their group and -as in my case- indipendent students and scholars rejecting the dichotomy which considers the University as the only temple for theory and the theatre as the unique field for practice. L.T. became, for many artists the possibility to build a common ground by joining the different directions followed until then along the uneasy path of theatre. To meet with the discomfort of never fulfilled needs and of sealed roles surrounded by overwhelming emptiness.

The wish to witness and to exchange experiences marked our following meeting and so we started to barter individual pieces of work. Never-the-less from the very beginning these monologues had a counterpart in the attraction towards a common work within a dialogue which gave an unexpected result, something in between rehearsal and perfomance, an expression which was in contradiction with the long used methods of each of us. A natural tendency to be interested in the route rather than in the destination has led Linea Trasversale's steps. Aloung this route of displacement, incorporated knowledge examines itself from the outside in search of self acknowledgement, inheritance emerges unexpectedly and discourse -distracted from theory- finds its motives. By sharing a collective experience of self-teaching, Linea Trasversale confronts the lack of communication among the anonymous theatre people and it tries to reconstitute the dissected theatre-body to make it autonomous.
